Creative embroidery and slow stitching by Aitor Saraiba
An invitation to pause, to breathe, and to reconnect with the rhythm of your hands. In this workshop, sewing becomes a calm, grounding practice—one that gently quiets the mind while allowing creativity to unfold naturally.
We will work with recycled fabrics, pieces that already hold stories and traces of lived moments. Giving them new life is a conscious, caring act: transforming the familiar into something meaningful, personal, and alive again. Each fabric fragment becomes part of a shared narrative of reuse, respect, and creativity.
Free stitches are at the heart of this process. There are no strict rules, no patterns to follow. Stitches move freely, guided by intuition rather than perfection. Mistakes are welcomed, spontaneity is encouraged, and every mark made by the needle is valued as part of the journey.
This workshop is a space for creative freedom, calm exploration, and gentle making. You don’t need prior experience—only curiosity and a desire to slow down. Come stitch, experiment, and discover how creating with your hands can be both deeply relaxing and quietly powerful.
All your materials are provided - along with a tasty lunch both days.
As Aitor is travelling all the way from Spain he would appreciate if you could bring with you your own basic stitching kit. He will supply all the materials.

A very special embroidery workshop, where you will learn to stitch while creating a beautiful and now iconic textile little amulet (Escapulario) by Aitor Saraiba.
The artist, a defender of intuitive, creative, and pattern-free embroidery, will guide you through this transformative experience.
You will leave the workshop with your own handmade little amulet (Escapulario), created using the exclusive materials included in Aitor Saraiba’s custom kit.

Art on Your Heart - 1 day workshop
Have you ever wanted to be a designer? Have you sometimes looked at expensive clothing brands and wished that you could have a piece like them?
Well... here is your chance to be the designer and stitcher of your own unique shirt.
In this workshop you will be provided with a soft, organic cotton long-sleeved shirt (ethically sourced) and designed by Kate, as well as a curated collection of florals and textiles to use in your design. There will be 3 colours to choose from, pink, green or blue.
Throughout the day we will use the "flower to flower" concept as the basis of an organic process of adornment. We will use a variety of easy stitches, varied threads and collage techniques to build interest and colour, as much or as little as you aesthetically like.
No previous experience is needed - walk in with nothing, and walk out with a unique shirt that will be the envy of many!

Annie Holcombe is a renowned Australian artist acclaimed for her innovative endeavours across diverse mediums, including painting, ceramics and textiles.
Her distinctive ‘Doodle Embroidery’ style has garnered significant recognition and is taught in workshop formats. Annie’s embroidery , consistant with her other artistic creations, exemplifies a favoured naive aesthetic.
Her works are distinguished by their captivating carm, vibrant colour palettes and detailed representations of real life and scenes inspired by the Australian landscape and her travels, particularly in Tuscany, Italy.
One Day Workshop – Mastering The Satin Stitch
The best filling stitch finally under your control.
If satin stitch has ever left you frustrated with wobbly edges, pulled threads, or circles that refuse to look like circles, this workshop is for you. Satin stitch is the foundation of so many Eastern European folk embroidery styles, and once you have it, a whole world of beautiful, expressive designs opens up to you.
In one focused day, Kasia will give you the tools, techniques and practice to turn satin stitch from your nemesis into one of your favourites.
What you’ll learn:
how to set up guidelines for accurate, consistent stitch placement;
how to rescue rogue strands and fix pulled threads without unpicking everything;
how to achieve smooth(er) edges and round(er) circles;
how to choose between a precise refined look and a looser more expressive folk style;
how different threads (stranded cotton, perle and wool) create completely different effects.
You'll leave with real confidence to stitch folk embroidery designs going forward. Kasia will also have a selection of appropriate patterns available for purchase on the day.

Whimsy and Wonder Textile Collage - 2 day workshop
This is a two-day experience where we will use a combination of textiles, threads and techniques to build upon your own personal style.
Inspired by the common ‘thread’ of florals, there will be the opportunity to work with precious vintage embroideries. supplemented with beautiful floral textiles.
With the concept of “nurture” and “growth” each participant will feel the joy of adding pieces and layers, “one flower at a time” as we go deeper into the creative process.
We will gather around the table, connecting and learning as we work with hands, hearts and mind on a project that can be as small or large as you would like.
You will be provided with an individual, unique kit of textiles, embellishments and threads to unleash your inner slow stitch gardener.
All materials provided. Maybe you want to bring your fave stitch kit, if not all will be provided.

This whimsical piece is a variation on the traditional needle book or husswif.
It contains everything you need to use in your slow stitching, including a cupcake pin cushion, a needle holder and pocket/s.

Inspired by the decorative interiors of artists such as Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, and Édouard Vuillard, this two-day workshop explores how pattern, colour, and composition can transform everyday spaces into expressive contemporary paintings.
Participants will use drawing, collage, and paint to develop layered artworks inspired by interiors, still life arrangements, windows, and personal spaces. Rather than working directly from observation alone, students will learn how to simplify, edit, rearrange, and build compositions through a process of experimentation and play.
The workshop is suitable for beginners through to experienced artists and focuses on developing confidence with composition, colour relationships, pattern, and personal expression.
By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a complete and resolved artwork.
The first day focuses on observation, composition, and developing visual ideas.
Participants will begin by exploring still life arrangements, interiors, and reference images. Through a series of guided drawing exercises, they will investigate ways of framing space, simplifying objects, and creating dynamic compositions.
Using paper, drawing materials, and simple collage techniques, participants will experiment with cropping, pattern, repetition, and spatial relationships. These studies will become the foundation for larger paintings.

Anna is a Melbourne-based textile artist who works from her home studio creating whimsical, nature-inspired pieces under the name Anna Victoria. Her work blends fabric, embroidery, embellishment and illustration, with a focus on mindful hand-stitching and a deep love of the creative process.
Enjoy a day being surrounded by sumptuous silks, glass beads, vintage brass charms and slow stitching as Anna teaches you to make your own divine embroidered silk bracelet.
You will be guided through the bracelet construction and then Anna will help you to design a beautifully balanced piece which represents your own creative expression, combining embroidery, beading and couching. Even the simplest design elements can create the most beautiful piece of jewellery.
Anna has an exquisite collection of dyed silks, old enamel-painted charms, and other embellishing materials which she will bring along for you to use.

In this workshop, Anna will guide you through the of making a stunning botanical brooch using silk, velvet, wire and beads. Your brooch will be soft and sculptural – inspired by old-world florals but with a fresh, contemporary feel. You’ll learn how to shape and stitch petals, embellish with beads, add embroidery and sculpt leaves with wirework so your piece has gentle movement, texture and life.
You will have the freedom to choose whether you want to create a single floral specimen brooch, or a posey of rosehips. Both designs are magnificent pieces of wearable art, sure to make a unique statement whenever you wear them.
This is a relaxed, creative class where you’ll be guided step-by-step, but still have the freedom to explore your own style and colour choices.

The Keepers: Cloth Doll Necklace Workshop with Anna Victoria
Anna Bastiaan is a Melbourne-based textile artist who works from her home studio creating whimsical, story-rich pieces under the name Anna Victoria. Her work blends fabric, embroidery, embellishment and illustration, with a focus on mindful hand-stitching and a deep love of the creative process.
Enjoy a day immersed in beautiful textiles, slow stitching and creative exploration as Anna guides you in creating your own handmade cloth doll necklace.
Cloth doll necklaces are a wonderful way to showcase your favourite fabrics, or that tiny piece of something special you’ve been saving for just the right project. They can also be seen as a form of jewellery as talisman - an opportunity to create something deeply meaningful by weaving in fragments of cloth or embellishment that carry personal history, memory, or significance.
In this workshop, you will learn how to construct a small soft textile doll using a curated selection of both vintage and contemporary fabrics, giving you plenty of options to personalise your piece. Anna will guide you through the process of building your doll from the ground up, including how she creates the arms and legs, and the overall construction of the form.
You will also be introduced to a range of embellishing techniques, working with beads, threads and trims to add detail and character to your piece.
A special part of the process is bringing your doll to life through its face. Anna will share her approach to hand-painting the faces, and you will have the opportunity to paint your own. If you would prefer, a selection of pre-painted faces will also be available to use.
Your doll will be thoughtfully detailed on both sides and finished as a necklace - a small stitched figure to wear close to the heart, like a personal talisman.
These pieces form part of Anna’s ongoing series, The Keepers - small stitched figures that carry story, cloth and meaning.
Anna will guide you step-by-step throughout the day, while encouraging you to make your own creative choices so your piece feels personal and unique. This is a relaxed and supportive class, suitable for complete beginners as well as those with sewing experience, where you will be encouraged to work at your own pace and enjoy the process.
All materials are provided, including:

– wool, linen and decorative textile fragments

We will be building and decorating two botanically inspired wreaths in this workshop.
The first wreath will be a native everlasting daisy wreath with seed pods, flowers and grasses and the second wreath will be a living succulent wreath. Both will be made from scratch using environmentally friendly and predominantly natural materials, with all botanicals being grown and harvested by Dominika from her large garden in the Victorian Yarra Valley.
Everything is provided however if you have something special you would like to include please bring it along.
If you have sensitivities or don’t like to handle plant materials with bare hands, please bring your gardening gloves.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and beyond.
A light lunch will be served along with refreshments throughout the workshop.
During this workshop Dominika will introduce you to painting with acrylics and take you step by step through her process in creating a still life composition. Using the Phalaenopsis orchid as our main source of inspiration and including a book and piece of fruit as is typical of Dominika’s style.
Participants are welcome to bring their own small book or choose from a selection provided by Dominika.
We will be using beautiful artist quality paints, onto cotton canvas.

Join Contemporary Fibre Artist and Author of The Untamed Thread, Fleur Woods for a fabulous two days of wool dyeing and slow stitching with the beautiful wools you have created.
In this workshop you'll learn how to dye your own wools 'Fleur Style' and create a handful of wonderful colours for you to use to create your own little slow stitched artwork.
On day one of this workshop Fleur will guide you through the process of colouring your own wools and share how she creates her much desired colours and effects.
Day two will offer you the opportunity to use the wools you have dyed to create your own slow stitching using a beautiful selection of textiles and curated supplies with plenty left over for you to take home and continue creating.

Join Contemporary Fibre Artist and Author of The Untamed Thread, Fleur Woods for a wonderful 3 full days of creativity.
We'll be combining paint, inks, dyes and imagery with textiles and thread to create your own mixed media slow stitched artwork.
Fleur's workshops offer the opportunity to play and explore techniques with generous supplies and supportive guidance. She'll share her knowledge openly and invite you to lean into this experience by providing tools, techniques and endless inspiration.
This workshop suits all experience levels as you will be encouraged to explore and expand your knowledge of stitching and mixed media to develop your own unique style.
Fleur will curate a beautiful selection of supplies for you to use during the workshop many of which you will be able to take home to continue your creative journey.

Art on Your Heart - 1 day workshop
Have you ever wanted to be a designer? Have you sometimes looked at expensive clothing brands and wished that you could have a piece like them?
Well... here is your chance to be the designer and stitcher of your own unique shirt.
In this workshop you will be provided with a soft, organic cotton long-sleeved shirt (ethically sourced) and designed by Kate, as well as a curated collection of florals and textiles to use in your design. There will be 3 colours to choose from, pink, green or blue.
Throughout the day we will use the "flower to flower" concept as the basis of an organic process of adornment. We will use a variety of easy stitches, varied threads and collage techniques to build interest and colour, as much or as little as you aesthetically like.
No previous experience is needed - walk in with nothing, and walk out with a unique shirt that will be the envy of many!

Learn Stitches, explore working with different threads and create your own Contemporary Stitch Sampler with Fleur in her favourite spot, Green Door Studios.
This one day workshop is a wonderful opportunity to learn a handful of my favourite stitches, tips & techniques.
Play with different threads to explore their effects, practice beading and embellishment to create your own unique sampler on Fleur's beautiful hand painted linen and using Fleur's hand dyed wools and beautiful curated, generous supplies.
You'll go home with a new perspective on creating with stitch, tips and techniques to use and plenty of supplies and resources to continue your stitch journey.
This workshop suits anyone who would like to learn to stitch or explore how to be freer and more creative with embroidery.

Annie Holcombe’s “Naive Embroidery” one day workshop.
This class has no rules, we only use a few stitches to turn your drawings into a masterpiece.
We use a water-soluble pen to draw your designs onto the Linen Tea Towel.
We use DMC Perle threads, 4 ply wool, felt & paint to make your designs come alive. Annie includes all this in the class.
There will be lots of drawings to help you get the ideas going.
If you have any drawings by your children or grand children, they can be made into a wonderful embroidered story.
This workshop is suitable for total beginners.

Annie Holcombe is a renowned Australian artist acclaimed for her innovative endeavours across diverse mediums, including painting, ceramics and textiles.
Her distinctive ‘Doodle Embroidery’ style has garnered significant recognition and is taught in workshop formats. Annie’s embroidery , consistant with her other artistic creations, exemplifies a favoured naive aesthetic.
Her works are distinguished by their captivating carm, vibrant colour palettes and detailed representations of real life and scenes inspired by the Australian landscape and her travels, particularly in Tuscany, Italy.

Still Life painting class with Kate Vella for intermediate using acrylic paints.
Working from life you will delve into depicting carefully chosen subjects and create interesting compositions using seasonal flowers, fruits, vintage and antique china.
During this structured class Kate will discuss and explore with the participants the still life genre and demonstrate step by step how to complete their own original artwork using acrylics in a contemporary style.
This is a small class of maximum 12 students. Suitable for those that have some painting experience.
Everything will be supplied for this workshop - paints, brushes, palettes, canvas….. Just bring yourself.
Lunch will be provided to nourish you and keep you going.

Join artist Louise Meuwissen in exploring how we house our emotions, in a workshop celebrating craft-based artmaking as a generative and restorative practice for emotional wellbeing. This workshop celebrates the power of adornment, symbology, and personal expression.
Create your own soft sculpture, in the form of a small, lidded vessel for emotional holding, embellished with recycled vintage and contemporary beads and sequins from Louise’s collection.
In a friendly and relaxed environment, you will be introduced to Louise’s art practice and be guided through hand-sewing construction techniques and the principles of bead embroidery.
Participants will take home a precious object of beauty and sentiment.
Participants with all levels of experience are welcome and encouraged. No prior sewing experience necessary; whatever your perceived sewing skill or creative ability, you will leave with a treasure.
Everything you need to create your piece will be provided, including all materials.
Please feel free to bring your personal sewing kit or any materials of sentiment or significance, you would like to include in your own work, if you would like.

Join artist Louise Meuwissen to create your own piece of 3d shibori. This workshop celebrates traditional crafting with a contemporary edge.
We will learn the process of 3d shibori, wherein fabric is permanently pressed into expansive shapes and textures.
Immerse yourself in the meditative experience of binding your design, and leave with a chic accessory (your choice of bag or scarf, pre-fabricated by Louise and ready to go), and a new skill that will take your up-cycling game to the next level.
Participants with all levels of experience are welcome and encouraged – no prior textile experience necessary. All materials provided.

Join artist Louise Meuwissen to create your own embellished wearable work of art. This workshop celebrates the power of adornment, symbology, and personal expression.
In a friendly and relaxed environment, you will be guided in the creation of your design and learn bead embroidery techniques to create your own wearable art piece, using recycled vintage and contemporary materials from Louise’s collection. These materials have been thoughtfully gathered over time, and include glass and ceramic beads, pearls, semi-precious stones and crystals, Swarovski crystal, faceted glass and cut-crystal, velvets and silks, and other trinkets and treasures.
You will leave with a unique work of art which can be admired on the body, and on display.
Participants with all levels of experience are welcome and encouraged. No prior sewing experience necessary; whatever your perceived sewing skill or creative ability, you will leave with a treasure.
Everything you need to create your piece will be provided, including all materials.
Please feel free to bring your personal sewing kit or any materials you would like to include in your own work, if you would like.
